Placement Agent to GP Stakes

Currently working at a placement agent focused on fundraising advisory at a mid-level position in an independent boutique shop. Feel like I am not building a great skill set and would like to switch to other parts of the private funds advisory world.

GP Stakes seems like a really interesting, growing part of the industry. Seems like only Evercore (and maybe HL) has a proper GP Stakes advisory banking group - do you think this would be a good career move? I have some connections to the team and fairly confident in getting an interview. My contact did mention they typically bring people back down to Analyst given lack of relevant experience.
