Hey guys,
Just wanted to ask about recruiting for IBD after you've graduated undergrad/grad school. What type of timeline would I be looking at?
Is it still possible to recruit with the regular FT recruiting timeline (ie. OCR resume drops in September/October and interviews in October/November)? Except obviously you'll have to network to get a shot?
Or would I be looking purely for groups hiring off-cycle / outside of regular FT recruiting timeline?

What is the best course of action for a person with IB experience? Not necessarily full-time, but say a year at a regional brokerage with the past 6 months working with the investment banking firm that uses them for compliance. I help with pitchbooks, gain exposure to (not necessarily creating) models and administrate (keep/update pipeline reports, IT support) meetings between managing directors (everyone but an associate and I are labeled managing directors). The ibanking firm has around 6 total people, the broker has slightly under 100.
I would have thought that kind of experience would demonstrate determination (starting back-office of the brokerage, working your way up), and would would be at least marginally comparable to the experience regional banks would consider for a first year. I feel like the experience loses some value because of the size of the company, and becuase of its generalized nature (I haven't been solely focused on cranking pitchbooks or models), but maybe? is marginally comparable to an internship? Will it really not get you a look at some regional shops (I realize some is objective- looking for a rule of thumb)?
This is the position I am in, so I'll give it a shot anyway. What would you try if you were me? Obviously an MBA down the road, but moving up to a better shop would probably help with my MBA app as well. I graduated in December 09 and started summer 2010, have a bit of MSF coursework with a 3.9 average at a verrry (emphasis) local college, and a 3.1 in Economics/ applied statistics undergrad degree from a well known state school.

honestly you'll just have to network your way to an interview. i don't think your work experience will hold you back as much as your college and gpa will. you seem to have sound reasons for wanting to get a new analyst spot, so thats a big plus.
Assuming no IBD experience, would this interview be for a June'12 start date?. Also, what if I am currently doing an IBD internship (I'm a post grad also)

I'm interested in hearing about this as well. I went straight for a masters right out of undergrad in engineering and finished May of this year. Can you still apply for IBD analyst positions once you've graduated and have no IBD experience? My OCR system usually restricts aplicants to senior UGs.
that sounds odd...almost all listing in my OCR around this time (S&T mainly etc) are looking for masters or PhD. I am pretty sure they hire out of masters...especially engineering.
If you have no IBD experience, OCR will likely take people with IBD experience over you for interviews. Your best bet is networking and spinning a heck of a story as to why you did an engineering masters and now want IBD (as opposed to even quant or trading). Start emailing and cold calling.
if you have post-grad experience in IB, they'll group you into the lateral pool and ding you that way
Which pool is it more prestigious to be dinged from?
What about if you graduated undergrad but no IBD experience and working in a BB MO? And if you want to do a MSF, do you apply for summer internships before your MSF, then recruit with regular FT recruiting during your MSF?
