Post Oak Group

Anyone know more about this group. They are based in Houston but they are remote and hiring bankers at all levels. One thing that they pay you $2k per month and then rest is 100% commission of the private placements you make. I am not a fan of commission based models. Most IB firms are offering like $150k base plus year end bonus. Anyone heard of this or worked in a similar commission structure? I have over 5 years of experience in IB and have been getting interviews from MM and boutique firms in NYC

Based on the most helpful WSO content, commission-based models like the one described for Post Oak Group are quite uncommon in traditional investment banking. Most reputable IB firms, including middle-market (MM) and boutique firms, typically offer a structured compensation package that includes a base salary (e.g., $150k+ for experienced professionals) and a year-end bonus tied to individual and firm performance.

The $2k/month base with 100% commission on private placements is more aligned with a sales-heavy or entrepreneurial model rather than the standard IB compensation structure. This setup could be risky, especially if deal flow is inconsistent or if you're not confident in your ability to close private placements regularly.

Given your 5+ years of IB experience and the fact that you're already interviewing with MM and boutique firms in NYC, it might be worth prioritizing those opportunities. They are likely to offer more stability, better compensation, and a clearer career trajectory compared to a commission-heavy model like Post Oak Group's.
