Pre-Offer Reference Check
I was asked to provide references for a lateral Associate position. They asked for 2-3 prior clients and/or internal company references. This is all pre-offer (verbal or written) so I am wondering if they will be contacting these references prior to sending an offer.
Is this the typical process for a lateral move? I am hesitant to provide these without knowing the terms of their offer.
For both my PE offer and family office offer, had pre-offer reference checks. That said, my team knew I was looking since it was always known I wouldn't be staying around after a third year and both firms knew that my team knew. Tough position for a lateral IMO - any way you can ask them to give you an offer (verbal or written) contingent on references checking out?
That seems like my only option. For obvious reasons, I can't have them calling clients or my firm to discuss me leaving before its an almost certainty. Just can't imagine that this is standard procedure for a lateral.
bump, anyone else encounter this situation before?
