Private credit at the big banks

I’m sure many of you have seen the large banks (barclays, Deutsche) setting up their own private capital divisions.

How does this work? I thought the entire reason private credit funds grew in popularity was because they offered a viable alternative to the big banks, with better terms and less paperwork. How do the big banks offer this and how would it be different from their standard lending?

Very interesting topic!! My understanding of DB private credit platform is that they will basically fundraise a fund from HNW individuals and maybe some sovereign funds and then participate in the direct lending deals that DB does as a bank, ie DB does a direct lending loan and then syndicates some paper to DB private credit fund which will be taking minority positions. That’s my understanding of how this is going to work in the beginning at least. Once the fund grows bigger maybe they will start doing independent deals and start selling some of the exposures to DB? Not sure. I wonder how DB as a bank will make money out of it? Are they going to skim the up front fee once they sell the loan to DB private fund? Or maybe DB private credit fund will be managed to DB bank and so DB bank will get managed fees from the size of the fund.

Just my thoughts.. curious to hear your thoughts.
