Private Credit in Power / Energy / Renewables: IB Analyst Looking to Move
I'm currently in IB and looking at moving into private credit focused on power, energy, and renewables (gas-fired generation, renewables, infra-style asset-level lending). For those already in this space, I'd love your take on the job itself:
Hours and culture: How do typical weeks compare to banking? Is it more predictable, or do deal timelines still drive crazy stretches?
Pay: How does comp compare to IB at the analyst/associate/VP levels, and how much is base vs. bonus vs. carry?
Travel: How often are you on the road (site visits, sponsor meetings, closings)?
The transition: What did the move from IB feel like? What do shops look for from IB candidates (energy coverage, project finance, modeling)?
Platform differences: Any notable differences between smaller vs larger credit funds groups on lifestyle and pay?
