Product Groups (LevFin, DCM, ECM) Post-MBA
All,
Prospective MBA student here making the switch from the miltiary to finance. I was wondering if it's doable to land an associate spot an a product group such as leveraged finance, DCM or ECM post-MBA. Haven't seen this discussed much on here so hopefully someone can speak about recruiting for these areas.
It's definitely doable. You'll see a lot more MBA's in LevFin than either DCM and ECM, which tend to fill their associate ranks mostly with direct promotes.
You'll have to network more to get ECM or DCM, as depending on the bank, they may not directly recruit MBAs but LevFin groups definitely recruit along with M&A and coverage groups at B schools (although some run a separate interview process).
I just finished my MBA and career-switched into a Coverage group but I know plenty of people who went into LevFin and M&A across the street. Most on-campus recruiting isn't group specific so you'll get the offer and then go to a sell day. However, when getting offers, sometimes they'll just give you a group specific offer without your input.
