Prospective IB internship applicant seeking advice: include unrelated EC and work experience?
Hi everyone! I hope you're all well.
I'm a c/o 2027 student prepping for the IB recruiting season in the Spring, and I've been spending the last couple days rewriting my resume. For reference, I am a third year in college, but I will be graduating class of 2027 because I transferred to a strong target school. My expected grad date on all my new school's documents are Spring 2027, so I'm eligible for the junior summer positions that are opening up.
To contextualize, I have-
Work Exp:
1 internship at a small hedge fund ($40M fund, my position didn't have a name because they don't normally recruit interns but my position was being an intern, it was semi-structured and I did analyst work including research into target companies using DCF/comps and creating a pitchbook which was evaluated by the FT analysts) [10 weeks]
1 portfolio analyst position at student run investment org at new school, it is real money and we're paid based on fund performance so I put it under work exp (3 months and going)
1 part time financial management position (2 years and going) for a small business
Extracurricular:
1 portfolio analyst and leadership position in an investment club at old school (2 years)
1 athletics-related volunteer position (2 years)
1 community service org that I helped found (1 year)
1 hedge fund club that I was a part of, but half of my experiences include drafting pitch books and using comps/DCF/whatever other valuation method, I feel like it's repetitive and it was only six months so it is not in my in-progress resume
Six is too many, they don't fit on one page, I know I have to cut one. I'm not sure if I should cut my financial management position (I manage the books, assist on price structure, and assisted the business owner in moving money around and conducting diligence to finance a small expansion [$120k+]), community service org (I know it sounds like BS and everyone says they founded a community service org, but we do do real work for homeless people in socal--I know resume readers would probably just think its BS which is why I'm considering removing it), or the athletics-related volunteer position. The thing is, nothing on my resume is IB experience, it is half hedgefunding/portfolio management, 1 financial managing, and everything else is unrelated to finance. Would any of it help in IB recruiting?
This is a word salad--I apologize for the long post. Any help is appreciated! I just want to learn more and improve my resume and future prospects.
All the best, everyone.
