That's more or less what they do. My girlfriend's team also deals a lot with carve outs and divestments. Exit ops seem to generally be pretty good. Mid-market PE and IB are both realistic depending on how you position yourself.
In UK the strategy deal team does Commercial DD for large PE firms (met an associate who works there yesterday)
Deals is mostly just FDD. If you want IB, their corporate finance group does mid market M&A.
