PWP TMT

Does the NY office still have a telecoms and media presence? I know the fintech team has been separated into its own group, and I hadn’t heard much about the NY TMT presence after the departure of Woody Young. Would appreciate any commentary on the current state of the team.

Have a close friend who till recently worked there. SF office does mostly tech (software), and NY does fintech and media. They closed their original media team in NY that was headed by Woody Young. Fintech team operates independently of SF tech team.

Not a Tier 1 team obviously, but heard the culture is good, and at least my friend's hours at Analyst/Associate level were very manageable.

Definitely. They were still on the Discovery/AT&T-WarnerMedia merger, but that was a legacy deal.  The word on the street is that they do not intend to compete in media (after closing out the team). Interesting also to see that other independents have build a deeper niche in media and have taken up the space - LionTree and Allen & Co being the two prominent ones. Out of the EBs, only Moelis has a decent practice that competes in media- but they are mostly focused on middle market deals.
