Q&A: Non target -> EB
Hello all,
I'm a rising junior at a school with no representation on the street and recently signed with an EB for SA 2022. This website was instrumental in me getting that offer and now I'm looking to give back. Please ask any Qs and I'll do my best to answer
Congrats, love to see it. How did you find a way to stand out throughout the interview process? Did your school ever come up and did you feel like you were interviewed differently because you’re a non target?
definitely, honestly ended up using the non target as a selling point, talking about how I had to work sm harder to get my foot in the door and how I would continue to do so at the job. Honestly I think there are definitely some people who look at you differently but feel like once you're in the interview process everybody is about equal
How many people did yu aim to talk to at each EB you networked with, also how did you get reponses to set up calls with non-alumni
about 50 a EB, just keep shooting your shot.. first time you'll hear it but quantity>quality just keep sending cold emails

If that’s true, then how many total cold emails did you send out across all banks? It has to be in the thousands, how’d you have time for that shit? When did you start and end networking?
WHat are some things you did during networking calls and how did you connect with others, coming from non target
Be a cool/ interesting person with a story and show your interest in them/ the firm
be genuine, find a common talking point (talked about the bucks with a MD for a hour and he ended up pushing for me)

Congrats! Is the interview process any different between EB and BB? Only ever applied for BB so far (prob dumb on my part)
Not OP but the processes are pretty different, and also vary a bit by firm. At least from my experience, BBs usually have some sort of hirevue and/or an assessment at the beginning. EBs usually just start off with a phone call. BBs also have group placement processes, which can involve further interviewing
exactly this, enjoyed the EB process a lot more, also EB more technical for sure, looking at you Qatalyst
Did you have lots of experience/quite the resume? Did you have any internships your Sophomore summer?
I did.. mostly random finance stuff I got through cold emailing

How did you mostly get your interviews? Sometimes I have people who tell me to email the recruiter after our chat, but I usually don't hear back from HR. Have you ever had to deal with a situation like that? If so, what do you say in those emails
HR is useless, ask for them to either refer to another banker or shoot your resume to HR, obvi not directly phrase it more discreetly
