Can confirm this is true. Santander is unequivocally the up and coming Elite Bulge Bracket Boutique like the Royal Bank of Canada but more prestigious due to its Spanish heritage (think the Spanish Armada in the 1500s that demolished the Great Britain). Ultimate royal tier bank therefore.

Yes after they brought on hella CS hires, they’ve been trying to establish a competitive franchise in the US. One of the reqs of sustaining / growing a sustainable franchise is attracting good talent, and the greatest enticer is BIG BUCKS.
Everyone going to santander for the guar bonuses is just gonna quit in a couple years when they fail to get any serious traction.
Good move though getting a guarantee this year or last to be insulated from generally pretty bad comp

What kind of numbers are people talking about here? I highly doubt people without guarantees this year will get paid well
What happens to others on the team when people with guarantees are brought in? At my bank we are bringing in 3 VP/D people later this year and before bonuses so presumably they are on big guarantees? What will happen to the other VPs on the team
Unless your a top top top performer expect a bad bonus. Bonus pool isnt usually adjusted for these things so basically you’ll get the stale peanuts at the bottom of the barrel
2 Trillion BS Bank that has typically played it safe. Their interest income gives them insane ammunition for pay.
