RE to TMT banking pivot

I have 3 years exp. In RE investment management. Can I pivot into tmt ib or a pe firm? Is the transition smooth? Also do bulge brackets allow such a switch internally or do they hire RE exp. Professionals from RE firms into BB IB?

Are you aware of instances where you have witnessed the switch? What was the person's background and exp. prior to the switch? What company did he switch into?

I have been part of the construction industry in general for a quite a while now. I had my undergrad in civil engineering and construction management and a masters in RE. I feel I need to explore more and TMT seems to show opportunities in abundance. Since I am already in the finance side of things, I feel the lateral switch is justified. Just want to get to know some examples/instances of how this was executed by analysts/associates, how did they do it and what firms were encouraging enough to permit such a lateral. Any idea??
