Sophomore here beginning recruiting for junior internships. I connected and stood out to an MD at an info session (made a specific point to remember my name at the end). How do I turn it into a Superday invite? Do I just go ahead and start emailing the MD for a talk or do I go the usual way and talk to analysts, associates, and VPs first?

MD
Lol definitely don't hit up the MD first; he's not going to remember you past the info session. Network from Analyst up to VP, then after talking to the VP shoot an email to the MD thanking him for his time at the info session and that you're very interested in the firm and have talked so and so people about the internship process. A phone call is a waste of his time since you're only a sophomore, so just email him letting him know you're interested and leave it in his hands
I'm not sure what you mean by "only a sophomore". Recruiting and interviews for Investment Banking junior internships occurs during sophomore spring now for most banks.
MDs don't give a shit about undergrad intern hires lol. You're not a member of his/her group until you get a FT offer, and they still won't care since you're more likely than not going to leave within 2-3 years. VPs and below handle the process which is what you should focus on. If you don't believe me, the below is the exact conversation between my VP in charge of undergrad recruitment and one of my MDs:
VP: "We gave offers to these 4"
MD: "woah woah full-time?"
VP: "No no just interns"
MD: "Oh ok cool" -- didn't even look at the names or know who was given offers
I would not say it is bad idea to email the MD if you think you have good chances of getting a response. In my experience, the first M&A internship I got was by emailing both HR and the Head of M&A. It is true MDs don’t give a shit about interns but in my case it worked and then he didn’t event talk to me again, but I got in
You have nothing to lose and an internship to win. So, aim for the MD if you got his email

Generally speaking, it might be that MDs really care about interns, but in my experience, MDs in my team did not show any real interest for the interns. Of course, they have a word in recruiting and showing your passion and dedication to them might help you get an interview, however, once you are working with them you will realise your are just a resource, which is obvious for reasons you should already know...
