Recent Associate Exits
With the exodus over the past year, I'd like to get a sense of where associates have been going. If you have left your firm and gone to another or have left banking I would be curious to know where you are at now, the process, compensation...anything would be helpful.
Thanks

Can you discuss the process a bit more from the time you applied to offer letter?

Curious about post-mba exits
This thread may end up being quiet if ASO bonuses are truly eye-popping this year lol
r u a wizard??
Have seen some go to small PE shops, finance roles at tech firms, and corporate roles
Pretty diverse exits tbh, but obvi not the “high finance” MF/HF exits you see analysts going to (they left finance for a reason)
Within corp dev etc (I know this is a sweeping generalization) where do associates typically land as far as title/comp? I'm assuming you don't come in as a VP. Any color there would be great.
Depends on industry and whether or not you’re A2A (years of experience and age matters sometimes)
associates would typically jump into a manager / senior manager title. Definitely not director or VP level.
Did you really say that a “smaller” PE shop is not high finance? You do realize that MF, UMM, MM, LMM, etc. are just classes or check size and/or strategy right? You can quite easily go from a MM to a MF and vice versus after a few years assuming you do a good job, meet people, and aren’t a square
monkey shit received from insecure Apollo MF hardos realizing their entire existence of work, practice for PE interview, sleep 3h, and repeat for the last few years may have another way
Most exists were into Manager/Sr Manager/Director Corp Dev roles in various companies.
Do you have an idea of total comp? A range would be helpful.
PM me ur industry
My personal opinion is if anyone exits into corp dev, make sure it's more of a broad corporate strategy role rather than being a pure M&A guy. You want to have a chance of getting into the C-suite. Just doing DD on targets is not getting you there.
A buddy of mine is an Associate 1 in a bad group at one of Morgan Stanley's smaller offices. He just landed a position with a ~$15bn buyout fund. I'd say that's pretty awesome.
What did he do before his mba? And where does Morgan Stanley have a regional office?
Yeah well I'm trying to hide some information here. He has a very unique background and if I tell more it's fairly easy to identify him.
Master's degree from a top target, almost no-name undergrad. I said regional office so I didn't have to specify at which office he actually worked.
