Based on the most helpful WSO content, there isn't specific information about Middlebury's recruiting for IB in the provided context. However, here are some general tips and insights for incoming freshmen aiming for IB:

  1. Networking is Key: Since you mentioned not having connections, focus on building them. Start reaching out to alumni through LinkedIn or your school's alumni network. Informational interviews and networking events are crucial for breaking into IB.

  2. Join Relevant Clubs: Many schools have finance or investment clubs that serve as pipelines for IB recruiting. These clubs often provide technical training, networking opportunities, and access to alumni in the industry.

  3. Maintain a Strong GPA: While the context suggests that a perfect GPA isn't necessary, keeping it above a 3.7 is advisable to meet the minimum requirements for most banks. Balancing academics with extracurriculars is essential, so plan your schedule wisely.

  4. Start Early: IB recruiting often begins earlier than expected. For example, some banks open applications as early as February for summer internships. Begin preparing your resume, learning technical skills, and practicing behavioral questions early.

  5. Focus on Actionable Goals: Set small, consistent goals like sending a certain number of networking emails weekly or dedicating time daily to technical prep. This approach builds momentum and improves your chances over time.

  6. Confidence and Persistence: Breaking into IB can be competitive, especially from non-target schools. Stay confident, focus on your strengths, and don't get discouraged by setbacks.

If you need more specific advice tailored to Middlebury, consider reaching out to alumni or upperclassmen who have successfully navigated the process. Good luck!

People posting on this forum tend to be weak socially. Recruiting at small schools like Middlebury are more social skills based since everyone knows everyone. Everyone at Middlebury will respond to people reaching out; after that it's up to you. Many people from other NESCAC schools will also help, and a lot of my best networking calls were with people who went to other NESCAC schools. The Middlebury alum network is fiercly loyal and people will go out of their way to help you if you are a good candidate who has any semblance of social skills. I was an athlete, but have helped various non-athletes in recruiting, and that's the case for most athletes I know.

There are clubs on campus and every junior/senior will teach you. It's a very much a cultural thing for those who completed their junior summer internship to help the underclassman recruit given there are no finance classes. However, you have to be more of a self-started recruiting out of Middlebury than any business school. On the other hand, there is practically no competition. In my class, maybe ~25 people recruited somewhat seriously for banking and most got offers.

Clubs are required to let everyone attend. The only club that has any competition is the school's consulting group. Just enjoy college while you can.
