References

I need to ask for advice regarding providing references.

I secured an offer from an international MM firm, which is conditional upon "satisfactory references". from my current employer. Unfortunately, I am not on good terms with my current employer and do not feel I am able to use them as a reference. The best I can offer them is probably references from colleagues who left my current employer. How would you suggest I bring this up?

Even if you were on good terms, you wouldn’t want a prospective employer to contact your current manager for fear of your current manager knowing you are looking for a new job.

So saying you don’t want to use your current employer as a reference is reasonable on its own
