Renege etiquette
How do I renege in the best manner possible? Recently received another offer for FT which I applied to during summer internship as a backup plan. This offer is actually better in terms of compensation but more importantly also for my personal/family situation.
Do I just email HR letting them know or should I let the Resource Manager/staffer know as well as a courtesy to explain the situation?
Always call, then follow up with email.
“Thank you for taking the time to interview me, unfortunately I will no longer be able to join you as a xx”
Thank you and the team for spending your time in my application and xxx etc
Explicitly mention “ I am rescinding my offer to join xxx effective immediately”
I wish you and the team at xx the best of luck
Best,

Second this. Also do not under any circumstances tell them where you're going or put "Incoming at XYZ" on your LinkedIn. Most places will just cross you out if you renege, but on the off chance someone's feeling vindicative don't give them an opportunity to ruin your next job
Well said, I completely agree.
Also, if they ask you where you are going, just say you’re not comfortable sharing that information at the moment. They won’t ask you again..
Don’t tell them, simply don’t show up in the summer but pretend that you are going to
