Reneging BO BB role for FO Boutique role

My professor runs a strict program. He introduces a boutique ib to the class for a sa role with applications opening in June. I apply and get selected to interview in September. It is almost november now and I have a possible superday coming up. I spoke with him yesterday about it, and also told him I accepted an exploding offer from a bb bo role, and he got very upset if I renege, and said “he wouldn’t let me do it”. Very worried about ruining relationships with the bb firm. However, this was an independent cold application with no networking or school support. This was also simply a timeline issue and I needed to secure an internship as I’m a junior graduating in 2028. Is this rational or unprofessional? I’m really trying to navigate this the best way, especially since my professor was the one that introduced the ib role to me, not the bo role. I’m very worried about ruining my relationship with the professor and my chances of landing a boutique ib sa role
