Resume Format Question

Quick Question:
On my resume I have one combined section called "Work & Leadership Experience." My problem is...I just got a big leadership position within an organization at my university. Since this technically just happened now, it would be the most recent, so would I have to put it at the top of the section (above my two internships)?

This doesn't seem to make sense to me because I definitely think my work experience (past two internships) are more important and should be seen at the top...but from a chronological stand point this sort of throws thing off.

Another option: breaking resume into work experience and leadership experience sections?

How do I handle this?
Advice??

Work experience should always be first. Whether or not to break it into two sections is up to you. Shouldn't matter either way.

I would suggest breaking it up if you have enough work and leadership experience to justify two sections that won't look bare/empty. If your leadership position is as impressive as your post makes it sound, you don't want it to be ignored next to work experience- put it in two sections. If your resume would look/be better with one section, keep it as one- however, you can format a resume chronologically or by relevance, whichever you prefer. Nothing wrong with doing that, and no one will fault you for it.

Everything that nonthehospitalER said, although I'll push you more towards breaking it out into two sections. I always find it odd when resumes are not chronological. Ideally, as time goes on, your experiences are more and more relevant to the job you are applying for (or at least they should be). If they aren't, it begs the question of why you are taking something akin to a detour.

Thanks all for the advice, much appreciated. I think I will break it up into two sections. Would "Work Experience" and "Leadership Experience" be appropriate headings? Also...small thing: it shouldn't be a big deal if I put something like a service project or non-leadership extra-curricular under the "Leadership" section is it?
