SA 2020 applications

I am considering applying to sa 2020. However, I have not done the preparation that I feel is sufficient. I want to utilize it as a trial to see where I need to improve and experience. Would applying this year be detrimental for sa 2021?

No, I don't think it would be detrimental. At a BB event earlier this year, most people who got the internships for 2019 that spoke had tried several times before. Some got it on their third try.

And if you don't get it, use it as both a learning experience and networking opportunity. Keep in touch with the people you spoke with. Ask for feedback. Let them know you're still interested and what you're working on. If you were light on technicals, take some internet classes on modeling and let them know that. If they're worth caring about, they will care.

Good Luck!

I appreciate the time you took to respond and your insight. My main concern is my lack of previous networking and experience. I have only one relevant internship. However, I have strong leadership positions and gpa. Feel confident if I can get past the initial screening that I will be able to sell myself. what is the normal work experience needed to secure a hirevu or a phone screen?

I know someone who got GS with no work experience and at a BB event, they kept saying that work experience isn't everything. If you put your leadership, co-curricula, skills and the one internship in your resume highlighting how these experiences make you a good fit when describing them, you should stand a good chance at getting to the first stage. As for networking, it may be a bit late for that but it isn't everything in the process, people who haven't networked have gotten internships. Just work on knowing your technical and highlighting the required qualities in your resume and application. Also, it may be late for this also but if any are still open, try to attend webinars and virtual info sessions for the places you are interested in.
