SA27 offer but no internship this summer
Hi monkeys,
As the title suggests, I recently went through a Superday with a BB and got a SA27 offer, however I don’t have anything lined up this summer. I've applied to a ton of places but haven't heard back/got rejected from all of them.
For background, I’m an engineering major coming from a target school. I don’t have any relevant IB/finance experience, but I have a previous engineering projects/jobs.
I’m wondering if it’s worth my time to cold call/email the boutiques/mms in my city to see if I could secure a summer internship. I know it’s extremely late in the game but mainly want thoughts on whether it’s better focus my efforts on landing something non-finance related so I have an internship this summer.
Who cares. Just do something chill this summer
Not the end of the world.
Personally I'd do something fun (study abroad) this summer and then see if one of those boutiques will let you do something 2-3 days a week next fall or spring. Or if you can take finance and accounting 1 next year as a non-major if your school offers that, that would go a long way with the basic concepts.
Work a normal job like a bartender or a lifeguard and have fun this summer. No point in doing a fake internship where you’re not going to really learn anything
If you want a finance internship for this summer, you could obtain an internship within asset management. I'd say most of the processes are pretty unstructured, so I'm sure with your background you could fire off some emails and land yourself an interview.
Additionally, to repeat what others have said, traveling or working non-finance jobs like bartending isn't a bad option. Just find a way to keep your technical abilities sharp.
Enjoy the last summer of genuine freedom you have. Take it from someone who studied engineering and put themselves through the wringer every summer after uni - you'll regret not taking at least one summer off to go properly travelling or at least do something new and different
I landed my junior summer internship before anything sophomore summer, and ultimately I just didn’t end up working sophomore summer, because you really don’t need to. I’d say enjoy the last true free summer you’ll have for a while, (probably until you retire lol). Study abroad, go on a trip with friends, or just be a chud at home. Unless you really need the money working should be the last thing on your mind right now. Now if you really insist on working, you can probably just send out a few emails for some boutiques, and you’ll get hired based of your resume already.
Why would they hire you as a sophomore
why would they hire you as a junior?
“Incoming SA at a BB” is enough to land a local boutique
