Sentiment on Vacation
Incoming An1 at T2 BB, wanted to take a long weekend trip with my partner sometime this year. Ideally just missing a Friday or Monday. Would I be able to get away with this if deal flow is slow or with a federal holiday, or am I going to have to wait a while before I can do this? Also would assume that I’d be doing some WFH as well, not just logging off. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!
Based on the most helpful WSO content, taking a long weekend trip as an incoming Analyst at a Tier 2 Bulge Bracket (T2 BB) bank is possible, but it depends on several factors:
Deal Flow and Timing: If deal flow is slow or aligns with a federal holiday, you might have a better chance of getting approval. Timing your trip during a quieter period or when others are also taking time off (e.g., around Thanksgiving or Christmas) could work in your favor.
Work Expectations: Even if you take a day off, you should be prepared to work remotely (WFH) if needed. Many professionals in finance mention that the work always gets done, and being available for urgent matters is often expected, even during time off.
Team Dynamics: Communicate with your team and manager well in advance. Transparency about your plans and ensuring coverage for your responsibilities can make it easier to get approval.
Cultural Norms: Some firms and teams are more flexible than others. For example, certain private equity teams encourage vacations and manage workloads around them, while others might expect you to be on-call 24/7, especially during live deals.
Early Tenure Considerations: As an incoming Analyst, it might be wise to wait a few months to establish yourself and understand your team's dynamics before requesting time off. This can help you gauge how such requests are typically handled.
In summary, while it's possible to take a long weekend trip, plan strategically, communicate effectively, and be prepared to stay connected to work if necessary.

If it’s not within the first 3 months you’ll be okay from an optics perspective believe it or not the execution capabilities of a BB will not disintegrate because a junior font aligner took 2 days
So cringe when people say “my partner” lol
I just say “my twink slave”
