Seriously...why do people write "thx"?
I just don't get it...for people on this forum who write "thx" when responding to something, why do you do that? Is it a power move? Is it because you frankly don't care and think abbreviation/short hand = efficiency so it doesn't matter what the word is? I genuinely don't get it...it's one of those perpetuating things in finance that we poke fun at alot, but in all seriousness, anybody that writes "thx" in my books is an ass...like either skip the thanks or spell it out...
You're taking things too personal. It's just a simple thanks. It's either showing appreciation for what was done or a confirmation that the information sent has been received.

it's almost entirely a flex these days, especially if it's coming from someone born between 1984 - 1996
Two reasons:
1. Trying to flex on those at the same level or below them. “Thx” is rarely used to someone over them. Showing you that you aren’t important enough to expend that microsecond it takes to use all the letters.
2. See others using it, especially those over them and now view it as the correct corporate speak to look more efficient.

I use ty. More concise and if someone calls me out on it (never happened), it’s a more polite form. Fo is another good one.

Boomer/Gen X communication. Back when cell phones sucked to text with, people abbreviated these words to avoid the painful process of smashing their number keys.
For some reason, thx still exists despite the upgrade to cell phones. I guess old habits die hard.
Because it saves them an extra 0.4 seconds vs. writing "thanks". That super valuable time could be spent doing important things bankers do like making the world a better place, evaluating which expenses/personnel to reduce for a company attempting to solve cancer, you know the good stuff

I don't mind if it's someone from a literal other generation, but it irks me when some VP/Associate who's late 20s/very early 30s will say "thx" etc to you but will never say it to someone senior. It shows a clear "I can, therefore I do" attitude. Again, if it's an MD/D they don't know any better and it's normal etiquette for them. For younger bankers it's a wiful disrespect.
Some banker sent me a ‘thx’ when he asked for a call to clarify why we declined some shit file his boss is peddling. To be petty I sent him back an email signing off with ‘tx’ (my first email had ‘kind regards’ as sign off which is my go to because I’m not a self important douche). The hierarchy of life was immediately clarified again and now we won’t have a call. 10/10 efficiency
