should i go into trading or M&A
math major in ivy league school, however i dont want to do very much quant work after college.
I was told that being in M&A is the safer route, and that it would be easier to shine as a quantitative mind. On the other hand trading also seems like an exciting field, especially commodities and/or derivatives, however there are the obvious risks involved, and the limited exit opportunities as discussed many times on this forum.
What do you guys think?
oh also my long term goal is most probably to work for a hedge fund
Start your own hedge fund first day out and make billions. What kinda Ivy grad actually works for other people these days :P
No offense, this is a pretty dumb post. Do the field which interests you more. You will find it easier to get into trading if you are a math major though. If you don't want to do anyting quantitative, look into operations or janitorial.
by quantitative i mean i dont want to do stochastic analysis, and data mining all my life... m&a is not quantitative in my book... I had the impression that getting into banking would actually be even easier as a math grad though...
well, doesn't matter anymore... accepted an offer from a hedge fund already
which fund?
he accepted at the Galleon Fund
