Should I Take This Job?
Recently let go from my prior firm, solid coverage group @ BB in NYC. I just got a new offer at a good coverage team at another bank considered an 'elite boutique,' however, the location is in West Coast. I'm not a huge fan of West Coast, and would rather stay in NYC. Should I take this job or wait it out for the market to open up?
Beggars cant be choosers
Right - but do you expect hiring to pick up during Q1 / Q2 23?
Nobody can really know but personally dont think it will as its still going to be mid-recession. Imo it will pick-up in 2024 again.
Surprised you were able to nab this not anything against you just so few openings. Was it through a connection?
Would probably take it
Absolutely take it.
I’m assuming this bank has an office on WC and in NYC. After like a year you can talk about really wanting to relocate due to family or whatever (just put together a good story)
OP fails to provide any of the details that would position us to answer the question, such as:
1. Length of experience before layoff
2. How long OP has been laid off
3. How aggressively he or she has been at the job search process
4. If you dont take the offer what is your plan B? Just keep hunting for NYC when no one is hiring until January, and even then most firms are bracing for a recession?
OP help us help you, give us the information needed to answer your question if you want serious advice.
Thanks,
1. Slightly over 1 year experience at prior firm, 16 months of FT experience in total.
2. Been 3 weeks since layoff.
3. Very aggressive, have been going at it a week after being let go.
4. Yes, plan B would be to wait it out in NYC and recruit after New Year's.
