Signed with one firm, other firm wants to know where I signed?
I know I'm being paranoid, but I wanted to get some input. I was in the superday phase with a few firms and got an offer from the one I wanted the most. I signed pretty soon after and have been telling other HR that I already signed with another firm and would like to recuse myself. HR then usually proceeded to ask what firm I signed with.
I'm guessing this is just for internal tracking policies. But I wanted to make that I should feel fine to let them know where I signed?
"It's a BB/MM/Boutique firm in the X product group" and leave it at that.
Don't tell them. Say that you have spoken with industry professionals and was suggested not to comment on where you are going. Thank them again for their time and being a source of contact through the process.
Just tell them. When I was recruiting for SA last year I had to cancel a few super days after signing elsewhere. They just want to know who they're losing kids too. Its literally not a big deal don't over think this.
There is literally nothing for OP to gain from telling them. I'm not saying they'd do some underhanded shit but there's no upside and only downside, however remote it might be. OP just needs to be vague at best.
I always kept it vague. Eg: "Im going to be at another boutique investment bank."
Sure, it's probably not gonna hurt you if you tell them, but it also won't help you.
I told a couple banks and they ended up getting me Hireviews later in the process. I don't think they care that much, it's not like you're reneging.
I’m always amazed at the over inflated sense of importance students have with things like this. It’s purely for internal tracking— there’s no fucking difference if you go all 007 about it just to have “incoming summer analyst at X” in your LinkedIn profile 48 hours later. Literally nobody cares that much about where you signed, it’s not the same as reneging.
