Size of Top US Banks

I remember reading on WSO some statistic like the BB banks having a greater combined GDP than countries #3-10 in the world or something like that. Does anyone have a statistic on that or can do a quick calculation with resources? Trying to show my friend how important finance is hahaha.

Finance is important but even if bank revenues were bigger than the top 50 countries combined GDP, the nations would still more important, yes?

UBSs' revenue is several times that of Switzerland. Finance is a large and important industry. Not sure what comparing it to the GDP of a nation really proves though.

You are still a cog in a huge machine that the gov't can indict and shut down. Temper your ego. Your job at this point is to cruch numbers, it will become to advise people/companies, and if you are lucky you will rise to a position of enormous wealth and responsibility.

Also keep in mind that the ultimate bank is the federal reserve, and no investment bank can hope to carry the firepower they do. Considering that BBs are being valued by division, they may be substantially further weakened in the coming years if they are split up...and don't think that can't happen. Energy and defense are more dangerous industries, and far more politically (and militarily connected), and the guys with the real power are in Washington DC.

This industry pays well, and there are some perks, but that's really it.

There's always a bigger, badder dog.

Just stay focused.
