So where do I exit exactly?

I honestly don't care for some MM PE or UMM PE. I'm not at a EB/BB and MF is probably out of the discussion. I don't care for corp dev because I sincerely believe corp dev is somewhat a dead end.

I honestly don't know where I can go at this point. The traditional finance route appears to be more and more unappealing to me. The stupid "traditions", the personalities, the promised yet failed fat bonus check ("12 months of your salary ends up being 6. That's a 50% difference") and underpaid significantly because "prove yourself before we pay you (don't you see capable people leaving?)".

Entrepreneurship is my end goal, but I know the time isn't right for a full-time exploration. Plus, I need to make some $ first, otherwise no start-up capital even for some IT infrastructure (hiring that laid-back tech bro who cleared $7 million last year when his ex-employer GOAT DOPE Co. sold for $70bn to Google).

Okay trolling aside, anyone doing strategy & operations, or business development? Was a huge gamer myself and it would be cool to work at EA or Lego (Lego is also for gamers, a different kind), or Riot Games.

S&O seems to prefer consultants?

The only lead right now: I'm starting a podcast with a buddy. Have had the idea a long time. Not counting on it to make bank, just want to tell some good stories.

I now try to lateral to a better bank for $$$, but deep down I know I'm not passionate about the work itself --- I do find deal-making interesting. Interest and passion are different animals. Banking won't be my long-term career.

Would love to see some well articulated responses here.

I've been a lifelong gamer. Loved WoW, Runescape, and League but I'm not particularly creative or interested in compsci and so I thought I could never work in the industry. Then I found out that some of Blizzard and Riots corp dev people are former bankers and that definitely peaked my interest.

Why not lateral to a gaming and entertainment group? Most BBs run it out of the TMT group (hard to lateral into, not guaranteed to work only on gaming) but the top players like LionTree/Aream/Raine are very focused on the space. You'd need a full analyst year under your belt, but if you can talk through your experience and have genuine interest/knowledge of the gaming space you should be able to lateral. FYI, mostly run out of LA/SF. Then go to your gaming company or startup from there.

Corporate strategy is also fairly common from IB - it's more consulting focused, but if you are happy making pitchbooks it's a solid exit. Ideally to work at an EA you'd come from a gaming IB background, but keep an eye on open roles anyway. 7 years is an unusual requirement, lots of corp strat teams are happy to have you as an associate.
