Do you give it to them? I'll be at a small investment bank, don't really want to give it away.

Get used to giving out your SSN for everything in life. Apartment lease applications, credit cards, medical insurance, pretty much every form in this world asks for your SSN.
Why would you even hesitate? If you're working at a place that makes you concerned about them possibly stealing your identity, you probably shouldn't be working there.
