Sophomore semi-target

a sophomore friend of mine goes to a semi-target school in the midwest, double majors in Journalism and Economics and has a 3.6. He's originally from Boston and is looking to work in finance. Any advice on what he can do? He's already called family friends and has had several interviews, but got axed in the final rounds.
