Sophomore Winter Internships

Sophomore at a semi-target who decided to switch from consulting to IB this semester. During the summer before sophomore year, I did an internship at a small consulting firm. I was wondering if it would be too late to cold email local boutiques for winter internships to get more IB experience as it is nearing the holidays? Should I wait until after New Years and target spring opportunities instead?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, it's never too late to start reaching out to local boutiques for internships. Many boutiques keep their employees' emails on their websites, so you could try to find this. However, you can also message them on LinkedIn if you cannot find their email. Another strategy that you could undertake is directly emailing boutiques' HR or careers team asking if they have an opportunity available. This is also a great opportunity to attach your resume in the email to hopefully impress them.

As for timing, it's always better to start sooner rather than later. While it's true that the holiday season might slow things down a bit, it doesn't hurt to get your name and resume out there. Plus, some firms might appreciate your initiative and drive. If you don't hear back immediately, don't get discouraged. Follow up after the New Year and express your continued interest.

Remember, you only need one "yes", so keep that in mind whenever you feel your spirits fall. Good luck!
