Sourced a Deal as an Associate - How to Negotiate Bonus?
Has anyone heard of precedents for junior bankers (Associate level) who have originated a deal for their BB? I am an associate and sourced a $1bn+ deal for my bank. The deal generated a $10mm+ fee to my bank. How have people negotiated comp in the past for this? I've heard there are precedents where an associate got something above the typical bonus range at year-end.
I assume an MDs or Ds name went on the deal as co-originator. Make sure they or you personal manager brings this up at your EoY review. I would go about it like this
Thanks!
I don't know of any precedent where someone got above the highest standard bucket of bonus possible but do know of some where they got an early promotion. Note that at the bank I'm at, there's an extra layer of performance called 'exceptional' which almost no-one gets (even the top bucket, who rank as 'outstanding' overall) - I believe that's the bucket reserved for early promotions and an above range bonus. You should for sure be pushing for this. Good job btw, comp aside, this is a great feather in your cap.
