Spring Intern Living in NYC

Hi everyone,

I'm going to be doing an internship in the spring in NYC around Midtown, and I've been having an extremely tough time trying to find a room/apartment. I've never set foot in NYC before, so I have no idea how to navigate it. I would've just applied to stay at SVA or some other university dorm, but they only open those up in the summer.

I'm only getting paid $250 a week (it's a boutique IB firm), so I'm thinking anything less than $1400 would work. Does anyone have any suggestions and/or are looking to sublease?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

LearningManI heard some pretty bad things about craigslist regarding room leases and such though...

Was in a 1 month sublet trying to find an apartment before my job start and now have my apartment and both were found through Craigslist. And I could not be happier with both the places, my apartment is incredible and the sublet was perfect. Use your common sense and it shouldn't be a problem.

You'll have to start looking at Craigslist about 2-4 weeks before you actually start. You could swing $1300 a month for a place in midtown. I stayed at a relatively decent place on 34th and 6th during a spring internship (it was a 1bedroom converted to 2).
