S&T -> IBD or Masters -> IBD? Help!
After completing a really rewarding S&T internship at a top American BB and receiving an offer, I was over the moon and naturally accepted it, then shifted my attention to doing well in my last year of uni. Since my start date is approaching, I've spent tons of time thinking about my role, and I'm realising I actually would like to go into IBD. I really liked my internship, but I'm realising I don't want to be in banking forever, and the skillset I would acquire in S&T is too restricting... now I'm considering backing out of my full time role, and opting for a Masters in Finance instead, then trying to get into IBD.
Do you think it would be possible to switch into IBD once I am in S&T? Or will I be stuck until I can do an MBA? Should I go for the Masters?
Please Help!
S&T still can open opportunities for IBD so if you have the offer in hand you should take it. Reneging is not great if you are looking to stay in same industry/geography. I know of someone who started at S&T in MS and later lateraled to IBD at GS. It worked out for them. Some trading jobs can also develop a lot of skills used in IBD as well. You can always make it work later with the BB brand. You’d risk not having as good of an opportunity post MSF. And most good programs want some work experience anyway.
