Standard chartered
How does this bank stack up against other BB banks?
I have been invited to have lunch with a very senior banker from their very very soon and I was wondering is it too early to ask for a referral for next year?
I think he likes me (hopefully) and is their any advice from anyone?
I wouldn't ask for anything at the lunch. Gather information and keep in touch, if you maintain the relationship when it's actually recruiting season you can call him up.

I mean, it's no BB obviously, but I heard Standard Chartered has actually quite a good name for FX trading, especially EM FX trading, as the bank is one of the leading financial institutions in Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

btw they offer a really appealing graduate programme, including rotations through operations, risk management and then two final rotations in a chosen area (also places in trading, research, capital markets etc. available). has anyone gone through their grad programme and/ or knows someone who has? If so, would you recommend it?
Their bread and butter is EM FX, but they're not bad in G10 either. On the options side, they don't do a ton of exotics, but they have a pretty good reputation.
ok thank you. do you happen to know where they rank in commodities? and what about fixed income? since they are strong in the emerging markets, I could imagine they have a good name in EM sovereign debt trading. but Idk really, just a guess.

Not a clue I only am familiar with FX.
They have good pricing for KRW, CNY, INR, and BRL. Their research is strong too.
i came thru their grad program and now work in fxo. dont kid yourself that the grad program is "really appealing", but it is one way to get to where you want to be. and yes the fx spot and options guys (both g10 and em) are amazing.
Does the grad program recruit heavily from the top U.S. MBA programs?
If you still visits the forum...am deciding between a few positions and would really appreciate if you can talk a bit more about the graduate progem: career advancement? Salary (against similar banks and programs)? Thank you so much!

Hi, I recently read of a very interesting graduate programme offered by Standard Chartered. I'm currently in college, but have completed two ER internships (sell-side boutique and large asset manager) so far. I'm now looking for a summer internship for my final summer before graduation. and if I get into Standard Chartered (just hypothetically speaking, I do know it is not easy, banks are selective ofc), I think I will have an increased chance of getting into the graduate programme upon graduation. So three questions basically: 1. what do you think of Standard Chartered in terms of career prospects, reward, reputation, potential buy-side (e.g. mutual fund) exits for research analysts? 2. what do you think of their graduate programme (12 months, four rotations, namely risk management, operations and then two in a chosen field, in my case hopefully trading and research. one of the rotations can be at a different office, e.g. in Asia)? 3. how would you rate my chances? my stats: from continental Europe, valedictorian in uni-prep school (should have aimed higher for uni), now at semi-target (Russell Group and Redbrick, but no Oxbridge or LSE), econ student, on track for first-class honours, two summer internships (mentioned above) in research, many maths/ statistics electives chosen, so solid quantitative background (and my degree is a quantitative econ degree course, so a B.Sc., not a B.A., A Level maths with grade A is required for entrance), extracurriculars: Econ society, investment society, running, Badminton
