Stern/UT BHP/UVA/UCLA/Vandy/UNC
HS Senior trying to decide where to go,
Stern is the clear frontrunner placement wise, but having a college experience does matter to me so still not committed. Does the Business Honors Program at UT bring it into a higher tier of target or are the others schools still better choices
Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know:
NYU Stern: Stern is widely recognized as a top-tier target school for investment banking, especially for NYC placements. Its strong brand name, extensive alumni network, and proximity to Wall Street make it a standout choice for finance careers. If placement is your top priority, Stern is the clear frontrunner.
UT Austin Business Honors Program (BHP): The BHP at McCombs is a standout program and elevates UT Austin to a semi-target status for investment banking. It has a strong network, particularly in Texas (Houston and Dallas), and places well in NYC as well. However, the competition within UT for IB roles is intense due to the larger pool of students aiming for these positions. That said, BHP students often have an edge due to the program's prestige and resources.
UVA (McIntire): UVA's McIntire School of Commerce is another strong semi-target, with solid placement in both NYC and regional markets. It offers a balance between strong academics, a reputable alumni network, and a traditional college experience.
UCLA: While UCLA is a great school, it is not as strong a target for IB compared to Stern, UT BHP, or UVA. Its placement tends to be more West Coast-focused, and breaking into NYC finance roles may require more effort.
Vanderbilt: Vanderbilt is a respected institution, but it is not considered a strong target for IB. Placement into top finance roles is more limited compared to Stern, UT BHP, or UVA.
UNC Chapel Hill (Kenan-Flagler): UNC is a semi-target with decent placement in IB, particularly in the Southeast. However, it does not have the same level of national reach or prestige as Stern or UT BHP.
Key Considerations:
Recommendation:
If placement is your primary goal, Stern is the clear winner. However, if you value a more traditional college experience and are open to regional placements, UT BHP or UVA McIntire could be excellent choices.

Go to stern no need to overcomplicate. At the end of the day, you're going to a college. Even though you won't be able to fuck around at frats for 4 years, if you're not a total squid you're gonna enjoy your time in NYC surrounded by kids your age.
