Stub bonus confusion
I’m a first year and still confused by stub bonuses. I hit the desk in September so if my bank does stubs what will my typical bonus cycle look like?
Dec 2020 - ~20k
July 2021 - 50k

no. You'll get paid around jan/feb/mar depending on your bank. First year you'll get a stub/half so 20-40 depending on the bank and then after that you'll be on the full year cycle like everyone else getting paid annual bonuses in jan/feb/mar hopefully at least double the figures from the stub
Why would anyone stay on until July then?
To get promoted eventually, to get more deal experience before leaving, etc
some banks pay their analyst bonuses in July. I think you're getting those confused
Lots of people dip lol, if you're in CA or NY the marginal benefit of the bonus difference after tax is stupid low.
