How important are brainteasers for top groups at bulge and elite boutique ib groups? Are they just for filtering based off pressure/thinking on the fly or are they actually hard no's if you get them wrong

In IB recruiting at super days, getting any question wrong is a ding and typically get you out of the process, so yes it's a hard no.
are insanely hard brain teasers still very common?
I'm not sure what you consider 'insanely hard,' but you should expect a brain teaser in at least one of your IB interviews. Just a case of luck how many you get, but it's always better to be prepared.

No body gaf if you get a brain teaser wrong as most don’t have a right answer it’s just being able to a) set assumptions b) make logical estimates based on them c) come to a conclusion while clearly showing a line of thinking
Were trying to see if you can think critically although personally I think these are just useless
not insanely hard but the only bank left asking brainteasers consistently and as frequently as consulting will be centerview
