Talking about Networking on Resume
This may blow your mind, but I've seen potential SA resumes that talk about networking on the resume.
Example:
As part of accelerated finance program....."Contacted 20+ alumni to learn about the investment banking industry and their experience."
What do you all think of this?
Am I an idiot if I follow suit? On one hand, the fact that a candidate networked shows initiative, on the other hand it could seem a bit....try-hardish.
Seems silly to me. If you networked so well, then people will see that because others know who you are and can vouch for you
If you'd like your resume to get dinged, you do this.
yeah...don't do that
Maybe he should go a little further to show his interest. Example: "My Comments on SeekingAlpha on Average Generate over 5 Likes!!!", "Have taken a tour of the Wall Street Trading Floor and shook Jim Cramers Hand", and "Have read over 20 books on Finance, including Security Analysis".
Resumes are life stories that list accomplishments. Networking is not an accomplishment- it is a necessity in IB. Listing that on your resume would be like listing "managed to dress in suit and tie for interview without any help".
Save it for the cover letter.
As many people said, it's implied that you are networking in the sense that people in the bank will know who you are.
