Tech M&A Questions

Looking for some info regarding technology investment banking (not Media or Telecom):

  1. What BB tech groups hold the model or have a dedicated Technology M&A team?
  2. What boutique tech groups place well into tech growth equity/VC?
  3. What’s the difference in subverticals between NYC and Menlo Park typically? Is software Menlo and hardware NYC?

  1. MS in SF, GS is more integrated in terms of subverticals, but it is a top group and you’ll learn a lot since they have in-house M&A (offices in NY&SF), not a BB but Qatalyst is the best Tech M&A shop on the street (by far most gross revenue per head). It’s only in SF and London tho. BofA in Palo Alto as well.
  1. All of the above would get you where you want to be, but BofA would be a slight step below the rest.
  1. If you wanna strictly do Tech you gotta be in SF. Kinda mid but it’s the price you gotta pay unfortunately. NYC is more media and comms and SF is tech. GS NYC does do tech stuff tho, but for the rest, gotta go west.

Correct me if any of this is wrong, but I got the info from analysts, so I don’t know why it would be inaccurate.

I swear it feels like according to this website every group has "top exits with (x-2) / x total analysts going to MFs"

Like I swear i've heard this exact same thing about the west coast teams for: GS TMT, MS Menlo, CS, BAML, Barclays, Evercore, Lazard, Moelis, PWP, Guggenheim you name it. There can't be this many spots at MFs across all of the US for how well "X banking team did in PE recruiting this year" much less this many spots for just the west coast MFs (assuming 90% will stay on the west coast).
