Tech M&A Questions
Looking for some info regarding technology investment banking (not Media or Telecom):
- What BB tech groups hold the model or have a dedicated Technology M&A team?
- What boutique tech groups place well into tech growth equity/VC?
- What’s the difference in subverticals between NYC and Menlo Park typically? Is software Menlo and hardware NYC?
Correct me if any of this is wrong, but I got the info from analysts, so I don’t know why it would be inaccurate.
CS Tech NYC covers all verticals except semiconductors, that’s SF.
SF also does some software
MS in Menlo Park is tech, MS in SF is healthcare
Some tech practices out of Boston (Lazard and Houlihan come to mind), but most SF
Lots of tech in Boston. Citi has tech banking, WB has a big tech presence, HW and RJ as well. Believe all the above are software
Recently heard about Citi SF tech on a tear:
1) M&A done in-house, like aforementioned teams
2) 6 or 7 out of 9 analysts this cycle exited to MFs
3) Again as said before, the tech side is in SF and the MT side is in NYC
I swear it feels like according to this website every group has "top exits with (x-2) / x total analysts going to MFs"
Like I swear i've heard this exact same thing about the west coast teams for: GS TMT, MS Menlo, CS, BAML, Barclays, Evercore, Lazard, Moelis, PWP, Guggenheim you name it. There can't be this many spots at MFs across all of the US for how well "X banking team did in PE recruiting this year" much less this many spots for just the west coast MFs (assuming 90% will stay on the west coast).
Clearly just an incoming Citi analyst trying to feel good about their bank. Actually have a friend in that group and their deal flow is pretty bad and haven’t heard of any great exits recently. Look at LinkedIn and seeing very few MF exits and a lot more MMPE
Interesting because I’ve seen Citi Tech SF get absolutely raided with ~5 people leave to Evercore Tech MP. Herb Yeh (Software MD) just left this last week to Evercore too.
