Thoughts on BMO and CIBC
Wanted to get opinions on BMO Capital Markets and CIBC Capital Markets specifically for U.S. Investment Banking.
How are they viewed in terms of:
* Deal flow
* Culture
* Analyst experience/training
* Exit opportunities
* Overall reputation/prestige in the U.S.
Also curious which groups are strongest in the U.S. and whether one is considered noticeably better than the other for IB recruiting/career progression.
Would appreciate insight from anyone who has worked there, recruited there, or seen them on deals.
Open to correction, but I’d say similar to SMBC, SocGen, Natixis, BNP, Truist.
Best groups at both will broadly be capital markets/LevFin groups since it’s easier to win deals with a larger balance sheet as opposed to competing in hot M&A markets with boutique/MM incumbents for pure play advisory mandates.
Best coverage groups, however, should be EIT at CIBC and HC & Industrials at BMO.
Correcting that HC at BMO is not great. Heard they've done 1 deal last year and then none since covid
