Thoughts on Transferring [Undergrad]
Looking for some insights. Currently a second-year undergraduate and will be transferring from a non-target to a semi-target this fall to finish out the remaining two years of my studies. Have always loved the idea of going to Columbia but never really gave it a shot. Definitely regret not having ever applied. Would it be insane to transfer there for the second semester of next year? That would make three schools in total, with only 1.5 semesters at Columbia.
As I understand it, it can be risky to transfer at any point past your freshman year but I think a lot of that revolves around networking with alumni and creating connections with professors, which doesn't worry me at all.
2% chance I attempt this but curious what you guys think.
Schools don’t let you apply for transfer admission if you have more than 2 years worth of credit. Columbia also doesn’t have spring transfer admission. Not sure why you wouldn’t have applied to Columbia for this cycle but either way wouldn’t help with SA recruiting unless you delayed graduation
Received substantial scholarship money from the aforementioned semi-target early on in the year and jumped on the offer. But like I said, minuscule chance I do anything. Columbia is a nice thought, but not my be all end all -- was just interested in how practical a move that may or may not be. Didn't know that about their spring admissions but as far as transferring with 2 years of credit goes, it is doable at most schools, just considerably harder.
Considered the same thing when I was a freshman, but I found the thing is: that most colleges only accept certain courses from your previous college. So you may think that you are going in with your lower division finished but find out you have to take a couple of intro classes which could set your schedule back a semester or two depending on when certain classes are offered. As for Columbia, why not knock it out of the park at the semi-target, get a few years of experience, then apply for an MBA or other master's program?
Yeah I don't plan on doing anything further until I begin to consider grad school, if that time ever even comes. Thanks!
Don't c a problem with applying and then if accepted, ask around for advice before making a decision
I could be wrong on this but I think Columbia doesn't allow you to transfer if you've already transferred schools. I agree with the other poster just to hit it out of the park and go to Columbia for an MBA if you have your heart on it
You aren't non-traditional so you don't qualify for GS and you can't transfer to CC/SEAS after completing two years of college. So no, you can't transfer in. Double transfers do exist but they have to transfer as a rising sophomore then as a rising junior, can't do it later than that at top schools.
