Tips on JPM Group Placement?

Hi, I have signed with JPM for 2023 IBD SA in NYC. Wondering if anyone could kindly share some tips and insights on the group placement process. I'm leaning towards M&A and FSG because I want to do generalist work. Some questions I have (but please feel free to share anything that may be helpful):

Around when should I start networking?

Is it detrimental to speak to multiple groups?

How many people should I speak to at a group?

Are these networking calls a lot different from recruiting networking calls?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hey currently SA 22 in one of the two groups you mentioned. Tbh I'd just chill until around end of first semester. Networking you can start in December and then just continue on into the placement process.

No you def should be speaking to multiple groups so you have options.

No specific number, obviously the more the better but wouldnt worry too much abt this

Pretty similar but I would say more chill since u already have the offer

What do you think made you stand out in group placement since placement into M&A/FSG is quite competitive?

hard to say but review ur technicals, know why that group (super important), and just connecting well w those u talk to

Don't go into FIG or C/R - both groups had abysmal return rates this year. FSG strong group with good culture. Not as strong of a technical experience though from what I heard.

Bro consumer was toxic / anal as fuck LOL. If one doesn’t care about that shit and can power through I respect the hell out of you (pretty good exits), but I chose a different group for FT.

SA 22, from experience started networking in November/December. Totally fine to speak to multiple groups, and chats per group can be anywhere from 3-10+. Networking calls are pretty much the same as recruiting but some groups are more anal/have a structured process.
