To fellow current bankers, what do you do to differentiate candidates during coffee chats?

Title, I’m a current analyst going through a slew of coffee chats. I want to help as many kids as I can but there are just so many, and I have to filter somehow to refer to interviews (else I literally just don’t refer anyone because none are especially memorable)

My question is, how do you structure these coffee chats to really understand a candidate? I’m talking beyond them asking you a bunch of questions and then you just think they’re chill. Appreciate any tips!

Obviously not a current banker (one of the kids you're probably chatting). I think if we are someone that can have a beer with you while also being smart enough to either answer a basic technical or talk about a deal intelligently, then thats enough. Boom you've screened out 60% of candidates, let HR/hiring team do the rest.

The question was not directed to you at all. Why are you responding as a prospect? You know nothing about the number of people that meet this criteria, and so have no actual gauge on how helpful your comment is, yet confidently recommend it. Egos like this show during chats and you will be screened out for it.

Read this before it was deleted but thought this was a very thoughtful and insightful comment, thanks!
