Too late to start networking for 2021?
I'm a sophomore at a non-target looking for 2021 ER and IB SA positions. With all of these threads going up about boutique banks (and some BBs) already starting their processes, I'm getting pretty worried because my level of networking at a lot of boutiques is basically nil.
How bad would it be to make first contact now?
In my experience networking is never going to hurt you. Worst case nobody responds to your emails or they tell you its too late in the game to get a spot, but then you have contacts and can always go for a lateral after your SA stint at another firm. If I were you, I’d start firing off emails now and maybe it’ll work out.
You are behind most people, but there are plenty of firms who will recruit during the summer and into the fall. I would absolutely focus hard on networking over the next few months to catch up.
Not too late but would start now if I were you (not tomorrow not the day after)
