UBS Future Outlook

Interested in what is in store for UBS in the United States. Are they expanding any of their divisions? Are they closing off any? Have there been any recent hiring waves of MDs? How will it stack up compared to its peers in the years to come? What do your exit opportunities look like from UBS?

Heard that their Healthcare group has been massively outperforming this year. Not sure how it's stacking up to other BBs, though – Healthcare in general has been exploding across the street these past few months so other banks could be doing much better.

There was already a thread about this (see above). UBS hires 20 MDs this year (industrials, tmt, consumer, fig). They are a balance sheet bank but they don’t really use their balance sheet (operate kinda like a boutique). Future looks brighter than the past, they are really focusing on industrials and tmt. They are getting a new ceo sometime later this year so who knows

The difference between UBS and a firm like BofA/Citi is that UBS does this every couple of years or so. They change management and one CEO decides to grow the IB branch for a few years, then another comes in and decides to shrink IB and grow WM, then again and again. This has happened numerous times with UBS and just because they had a decently solid year doesn't mean they are the next BAML. BAML/Citi are always focusing on growing the IB arm of their business regardless of the cycle which is why they are so reliable
