UBS Houston Global Banking

Hello, I have an Sonru from UBS for a global banking position for Summer 2023. Does anyone know the deal flow, WLB, and culture at UBS in Houston. I am not well-versed in all of the IB recruitment (I come from a CS + Math background and became more intersested in IB), so any advice or information would be helpful. I am worried that interning at Houston will not be helpful long term as it seems focused on O&G which I am bearish towards.

I believe energy is extremely interesting. However, my colleagues heading to IB seem to be raising warning signs on the future of the O&G space. It seems that they believe the deal flows are low and that if you focus  on energy banking you will be pigeonholed

From what I understand is that they also do work in energy transition. Also if you think O&G is going away any time soon, I believe you're mistaken. I work O&G-tangent in the energy industry and we are simply not even close to losing it. If you plan on doing IB for a couple years, then it's not something to worry about IMO. It's also just an internship.

There are headwinds like some capital drying up in traditional O&G due to ESG pushes across investors, but there's still opportunity and these companies still need to operate.

I've interviewed/networked with the Houston team before and I liked them a lot, even though it's not even close to the top of the Houston banks. FWIW every junior employee I networked/interviewed with over a year ago is still there.
