Undergrad comparison: GWU (-$) or NYU (+$)

Looking to go into either investment banking or private equity on wall street after undergrad

4y cost for George Washington business: $80 000 and 4y cost at NYU Stern: $310 000

Parents can pay but this kind of money takes a burden on anyone

Stern is significantly better. If your parents can afford it, I would go with it.

GWU is a great school but being brutally honest with you it is gonna be a non-starter for IB. Even though it is in the heart of foggy bottom, all of the SA spots in DC still go to the Georgetown and UVA kids; now extrapolate that to NYC, Boston, Atlanta, Charlotte, etc... I've never met a GW grad in NYC but that's extremely anecdotal, I would look at placement on LinkedIn for a better gut check but I presume the story will stay the same.

$310k is a fuck ton of money, but relative to potential earnings if you do land IBD, PE, S&T, AM, etc... You're looking at about the same deal as people who are going to T14 law gigs for Corp Law (200k + their UG debt) or T15 MBA's (also 200k + their UG debt) for Associate roles down the line. Just something to think about.

Still a lot to consider. Even if someone is footing the bill, this kind of money will surely add a lot of pressure on one's shoulders to succeed to a certain degree.

310k is a significant amount and I wouldn’t want to make my parents pay for that. Are there any other schools you applied to? Also looking on linkedin there are 3500 results with investment banking. Just network hard and worst comes to worst you could always transfer.
