Unhappy in corporate coverage, finding it very hard to switch to IB industry group

I'm a 1st year analyst at a BB in corporate coverage (target school). While the compensation is half-decent and the work is definitely manageable (I rarely work more than 50-60 hours a week), I feel like I'm not growing in the role--particularly because I have no interest in treasury and am still gunning for a PE exit. Trying to network with IB people on the floor is an absolute social minefield and I'm fully aware of the optics of trying to switch within the first year of the program. I'm contemplating getting an MBA somewhere down the line or even getting a CFA, but am hoping to make the switch without additional opportunity cost. Any advice would be very helpful.

Have been through the same situation. Moving internally as a first year is a social and political shitshow.

You’re at a BB coming from a target. You can easily get interviews at other BBs and perhaps even EBs. Jefferies also hiring like crazy. Would not consider an MBA as lateraling should be super doable
